Inspiration: Print Magazine Interview

I came across this article Best Practices Part 2: More Tips for Green Printing by Jeremy Lehrer on the Print website. It’s the second part of his Best Practices article about ways designers can print more sustainable. He spoke to Jeremy Carroll, of Imagine! Print Solutions, Sarah Riegelmann, an independent print-production consultant, and Nicole Smith of Design & Source Productions. In the interview they cover the estimating stage, the printing stage and packaging, each relating to sustainability. It’s a very informative article that I find very helpful for the next time I send a job to the printer

The Designer’s Field Guide to Sustainability

DesignerGuide3

I came across this interview on the Print website about sustainability. Trevor Hacker is a designer at Lunar, which is a San Francisco based design company, and he talks about working as a designer in the city, and the challenge’s he faced when creating the “Designer’s Field Guide to Sustainability.” You can find this guide at http://www.lunar.com/fieldguide.html. I had a chance to read through it, and found it very helpful. It gives insightful information about sustainable product development and the product life cycle.

Update: Sustainable Design

renourish

Awhile ago I posted a excerpt about rethinkdesign which was a great resource for learning about sustainable graphic design. They have currently merged with re-nourish.com which is an absolute wonderful resource. I was browsing around on the site, and there are a lot of tools, suggestions, resources and even examples. Kudos to the wonderful people behind re-nourish.com.

Green Design Resource: Rethink Design

One of The Design Shadow’s goals is finding effective ways of going green in the classroom, by cutting down on the amount of paper used by teachers and students, and placing a lot of that information online. I was surfing the web the other day, and came across this website: rethinkdesign.org. It began as a students Thesis project at New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University. In addition to all of the responsibilities placed on a Graphic Designer, we should be aware of the fast-changing world around us in relation to sustainable design. Rethink Design gathers all the information you need to know about sustainable design and places them at the designers disposal.
