About

Lance Schmittling created The Design Shadow in the Summer of 2009 as part of his Thesis project while attending Fort Hays State University. While assistant teaching, he noticed that a lot of paper was being used in the classroom. He knew there had to be a more effective way of teaching without using as much paper. He began creating online tutorials on subjects ranging from color theory to grid design. However, these web tutorials needed to be in one spot so professors could find the information quickly. The Design Shadow was the result. In addition to the tutorials, this website gathers information from the design world, inspiration from fellow designers, and tips and tricks for the programs used the most. The ultimate goal of The Design Shadow is to make life easier for Professor’s of Graphic Design. Put the information online at the disposal of the Professor’s, and this gives them a powerful resource to use in the classroom and makes essential information accessible to their students.
